Sylvia Howell-Krebs was Belhaven's first women's basketball star, earning four letters from 1956-59. No statistics or results exist of those pioneering teams, but what is clearly recorded is that in 1958 and '59 she led Belhaven to consecutive Jackson City Championships. She served as team captain, and played Jackson AAU basketball.
A Who's Who in American Colleges, Howell-Krebs earned an arts degree and has added a masters and doctorate. She had taught in 11 colleges and universities in the South at the time of induction.
She also made Belhaven history with induction into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
