Hall of Fame
Former Belhaven Men's Soccer Coach Peter Fuller is set to be inducted into the Belhaven Athletics Hall of Fame this October as a part of the 2022 class. Fuller led the Belhaven program from 1991-1993 and helped the Blazers' to new heights of success.Â
Across his three-year tenure, Fuller led the Blazers to 59 wins across 73 matches played which marks an .836 winning percentage, the highest by any single coach in program history.Â
1992 NAIA National Championship
The height of his time at Head Coach was reached in 1992 however when Fuller coached Belhaven to their first ever Men's Soccer National Championship and just the second National Championship in Belhaven Athletics history.Â
Coach Fuller's 1992 squad went 19-2 ahead of the NAIA National Tournament and were drawn into a tournament pool alongside Rockhurst (Mo.) and Tiffin (Ohio) in the opening round. Belhaven would draw Rockhurst in the opening match who subsequently drew Tiffin in their second match. That set up a win and advance match against Tiffin which Belhaven won on a late goal sending them through to the knockout stages.Â
The Blazers sealed a berth to the tournament final with a penalty shootout win against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Blazers took on Lynn University (Fla.) in the tournament final and took down the national power, 2-1, to seal one of the most impactful moments in Belhaven Athletics history. As a part of the historic run, Belhaven player Sheldon Bennett was named the Tournament MVP and Coach Fuller was named the 1992 NAIA Coach of the Year.Â
