JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven forward Somto Ngwudike has been named the C Spire Athlete of the Week following his performance on the field last week versus the University of Texas at Dallas and Howard Payne University.  

Ngwudike led the Blazers to a 3-1 win over conference-leading Texas Dallas on Thursday, becoming the second Belhaven player to score two goals in a single game this season. Ngwudike got the Blazers on the scoreboard in the 12th minute of play, finding the back of the net off of a John Dunbar corner kick. Then late in the second half, the junior received a long pass from defender Phillip Nichols, took a dribble past a Comet defender and slotted a shot past the goalkeeper to give Belhaven a 3-0 lead. 

Ngwudike also registered three total shots and two shots on goal in 72 minutes of action on Saturday as Belhaven earned a 3-2 overtime victory over Howard Payne. The Blazers finished the season by winning four games in a row and six of its last seven.
