JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven men's tennis player Omar Lopez has been named the C Spire Athlete of the Week following his performance during Belhaven's weekend sweep of Centenary College, Southwestern University (TX), and University of the Ozarks.

In the match against Centenary, Lopez defeated Christopher Matthews in singles play 8-1, then partnered with Rene Ramos in doubles competition to beat Kane Kershaw and Christopher Matthews 8-0. Â The Blazers went on to sweep Centenary 9-0.

The Bogota, Columbia native beat Ozarks' Paul Jarvis in two 6-0 sets, then with Ramos again in doubles play, beating Alix Tiegs and Paul Jarvis 8-0.

Lopez defeated Haluki Nakayama of Southwestern University in two 6-1 sets and with his doubles partner Ramos, went on to finish off Will Ellis and Sam McCready 8-4.

Announcements for the NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament have not been released, so the Blazers still await word on postseason berth.
