JACKSON, Miss. – Belhaven softball player Carly Yasses has been selected as the C Spire Athlete of the Week following her performance this past week, ending February 13.
Carly Yasses led the Blazers to a victory over No. 4 East Texas Baptist 10-6 on Friday night and contributed at the plate in all three games this past weekend against the top five opponent.
Yasses started off the victory with a two-RBI single in her first plate appearance of the weekend. After ETBU tied things up in the bottom of the second, it was Yasses driving in another run with her bat, hitting a solo homerun to give the Blazers a 5-4 lead in her next at bat.
The senior catcher would then cap off the game in the sixth inning, picking up her third hit of the contest, bringing in two more runs.
Yasses started off day two with an RBI single in her first at bat, which gave the Blazers an early lead.
In the final game, Yasses put the Blazers on the scoreboard again with another RBI base hit and she would go on to hit an RBI double later in the contest.
For the week, Yasses was 6-for-11 at the plate, including a .909 slugging percentage with the double and home run. She also drove in eight runs in the game.
The Blazers return to action this weekend with the first home games of the year. The Blazers will host No.1 Texas-Tyler with a doubleheader on Friday and a single game Saturday.
