ATLANTA, Ga. - Belhaven junior
Drew Groscost has been named the Collegiate Conference of the South Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.
The recognition marks the first CCS weekly honor of Groscost's career and follows his standout performance at the Rhodes Fall Invitational
The Olive Branch, Mississippi, native led Belhaven with a 10th-place finish among 65 golfers at Tunica National. Groscost carded rounds of 73, 72 and 74 to complete the 54-hole tournament at 3-over-par 219.
Groscost's showing helped the Blazers finish seventh in the 11-team field with a three-round total of 893 (+29). Belhaven finished just seven strokes behind third place, while three of the nine golfers ahead of Groscost in the individual standings represented NCAA Division I Memphis.
Groscost never shot higher than 74. He played the final 36 holes at two over par and accumulated 12 birdies and 29 pars. He finished third in the field in par-3 scoring with a 2.92 average, playing the short holes at one under, and tied for eighth on the par 5s at four under.
His performance also placed him among the best 54-hole scorers in program history. Groscost's 219 matched the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in the Belhaven record book, while his 3-over finish tied the third-best 54-hole score relative to par.
Groscost has led the Blazers in each of their first two tournaments this season. He began his Belhaven career at the Greystone Fall Invitational earlier this month, where he posted consecutive rounds of 74 to finish tied for ninth at 148 (+4). He led the 24-player field with 27 pars in his Blazer debut.
Through two events, Groscost has recorded two top-10 finishes and a 73.4 scoring average across five rounds. All five of his rounds have fallen between 72 and 74, giving him a cumulative score of 367 (+7).
Before joining Belhaven, Groscost competed for two seasons at Jones College and earned All-Conference recognition twice. The Lewisburg High School product was a four-time All-District, two-time All-State and two-time Golf All-Star selection during his prep career.
Groscost and the Blazers return to competition Oct. 5-6 at the West Pines Collegiate in Douglasville, Georgia. The tournament will be hosted by Oglethorpe University.
