JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven Men's & Women's Track & Field closed out the CCS Track & Field Championships on its home track with a strong final day, picking up multiple event wins, a conference record, and several improved performances from the prelims.
Neal Terry led the way with one of the top performances of the meet. The senior won the triple jump with a mark of 15.11 meters, setting a CCS record and moving into third nationally in NCAA Division III this season. He also added a fourth-place finish in the high jump at 1.82 meters after already winning the long jump earlier in the championships.
Kenneth Mills continued to build on a standout freshman season. He cleared 1.92 meters to win the high jump and score 10 points for the Blazers. Earlier in the meet, Mills posted a personal-best 11.00 in the 100-meter prelims to qualify for the finals and anchored Belhaven to a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay at 42.28.
On the women's side,
Kimona Haynes finished her weekend with two wins. After running a personal-best 54.80 in the 400-meter prelims, she came back to win the final in 58.85. She followed that with a first-place finish in the 200 meters at 24.66, improving on her prelim time from day one.
The women's 4x400 team of
Kimona Haynes,
Courtney Adams,
Brycelyn Townsend and
Myisha Turner closed the meet with a win in 4:12.90, while the men's 4x400 relay of
Julius Phillips,
Leeson Taylor III,
Seth Haynes and
Neal Terry placed third in 3:28.55.
Brycelyn Townsend added another title for Belhaven, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 15.92.
Damian Sidelien chipped in points on the men's side with a second-place finish in the 400M hurdles at 59.35.
Belhaven's sprint group added depth throughout the day.
Julius Phillips improved from his prelim race to place fifth in the 400-meter final at 50.48, then came back to take fifth in the 200 meters at 22.55.
Leeson Taylor III also dropped time from prelims to finals in the 400.
In the 800 meters,
Drew Duckworth improved on his prelim performance and placed eighth in 2:08.86.
Courtney Adams added points on the women's side with a seventh-place finish in 2:35.89.
The field events remained a steady source of points.
Alex Reed placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.44 meters after posting a 7.00-meter jump in the long jump in yesterday's portion of the meet.
Mallory Golden had a podium finish, placing second in the high jump at 1.55 meters.
Yasmyne McCann turned in a consistent two-day effort, finishing second in the 100 meters at 12.78 and fourth in the 200 meters at 26.42 after qualifying out of prelims.
The men's team finished in sixth place overall with 81 points, while the women's team finished in fifth place overall with 75 points.
