Blazers Open NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Belhaven opened competition at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday as Neal Terry competed in the men's long jump finals and Kimona Haynes took the track in the women's 200m preliminaries against some of the top athletes in the country.

Terry finished 11th overall in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.17m. The Belhaven senior opened the competition with his top jump of the afternoon before adding a 6.96m effort later in the finals. The mark came just shy of his season-best jump of 7.31m, which broke his own CCS record earlier this spring at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet.

The national field featured several of Division III's top jumpers, including national champion and NCAA Division III Long Jump record-holder Joshua Rivers of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, who won the event with a leap of 7.86m.

Terry closes out the long jump portion of his NCAA Championship week after another historic outdoor season. Earlier this spring, he captured CCS titles in both the long jump and triple jump while earning CCS Field Athlete of the Meet honors for the third consecutive year. He also set the CCS record in the triple jump with a mark of 15.11m at the conference championships, a jump that ranked among the top marks in Division III this season.

The senior will return to competition Saturday morning in the men's triple jump finals at 11:00 a.m.

On the women's side, Haynes competed in the opening round of the 200m and finished 21st nationally with a time of 25.00.

The Belhaven senior entered the national meet after putting together one of the strongest sprint seasons in program history. Haynes qualified for nationals in both the 200m and 400m after posting CCS-leading times of 24.26 in the 200m and 54.80 in the 400m earlier this season.

Her 24.26 at the Belhaven Invitational set a new personal-best and ranked among the top times in Division III entering the national championships, while her 54.80 at the CCS Championships earned her the sixth-fastest 400m time in the country this season.

Haynes also claimed the 2026 CCS Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year award for the second straight season and leaves behind one of the most decorated careers in conference history. She owns the CCS records for career First Team All-Conference selections with nine and total all-conference honors with 15.

Haynes will return to the track Friday for the women's 400m preliminaries scheduled for 4:50 p.m. as she looks to advance to Saturday's national final.
