Terry, Haynes Lead Belhaven on Day One of the CCS Championships

JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven Track & Field got off to a solid start Tuesday at the CCS Track & Field Championships with a mix of event wins, qualifiers, and another personal best from Kimona Haynes.

The biggest moment on the men's side came from Neal Terry, who took care of business in the long jump once again. The senior won the event with a mark of 7.19 meters, giving him his third straight CCS title in the long jump. He's now finished in the top five in all four of his seasons at Belhaven. Alex Reed made it a 1-2 finish for the Blazers, placing second with a jump of 7.00 meters.

On the track, Kenneth Mills kept his strong freshman season going, running 11.00 in the 100-meter prelims to qualify for Wednesday's final. Seth Haynes followed with an 11.50.

In the 200, Julius Phillips led the way for Belhaven and punched his ticket to the final with a 22.62. Haynes (23.29), Leeson Taylor III (23.87), and Jaheem Cook (23.90) also competed in the event.

Phillips came back later in the day and qualified again, this time in the 400 meters with a time of 51.22. Taylor (52.84) and Cook (53.21) added times in the same race.

The 800 meters saw Drew Duckworth move on to the final with a 2:02.45, continuing to build off the progress he's made this season. Jacob Turner (2:08.52) and Donovan Hurst (2:13.61) also ran for the Blazers.

On the women's side, Kimona Haynes turned in one of the top performances of the day. She ran a personal-best 54.80 in the 400 meters to qualify for the final, improving on her previous marks this season. She also advanced in the 200 with a time of 25.92.

Yasmyne McCann will be busy on day two after qualifying in both the 100 and 200. She ran 12.70 in the 100 prelims and followed it with a 26.51 in the 200 to move on.

In the 800, Courtney Adams secured a spot in the final with a 2:33.79, another step forward from earlier meets this season. Myisha Turner (2:44.81) and Destiny Griffin (3:14.29) rounded out the group.
