MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Belhaven Track & Field turned in a strong showing at the Rhodes 7-Way Invitational, the team's fifth outdoor meet of the season, highlighted by event wins, personal bests, and a program record performance.
On the men's side,
Kenneth Mills continued his impressive freshman campaign. Mills won the 100 meters with a personal-best time of 11.03 seconds, marking his second consecutive first-place finish in the event. He also added a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters.
The Blazers saw another major performance in the field events from
Neal Terry, who set a new program record in the long jump with a mark of 7.31 meters. The jump ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season and led the field. Terry also picked up a win in the triple jump with a mark of 14.47 meters.
On the track,
Julius Phillips placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 22.63 seconds, while
Leeson Taylor III finished second in the 400 meters in 51.21.
Damian Sidelien added a fourth-place finish in both hurdle events, clocking in at 17.25 in the 110 hurdles and 1:00.83 in the 400 hurdles.
In the middle-distance events,
Drew Duckworth posted a personal-best time of 2:01.83 in the 800 meters to lead Belhaven, while
Jacob Turner followed with a 2:08.86 and
Donovan Hurst recorded a 2:11.17. Peyton Vandevuss turned in a 4:52.21 in the 1500 meters.
Belhaven also saw success in the relays. The 4x100 relay team of
Seth Haynes,
Julius Phillips,
Leeson Taylor III, and
Kenneth Mills took first place with a time of 42.32 seconds. The 4x400 relay squad of Taylor, Phillips,
Jaheem Cook, and
Alex Reed added another win, finishing in 3:26.70.
On the women's side,
Kimona Haynes continued to lead the sprint group with a third-place finish in the 200 meters, crossing in 25.08 seconds.
Yasmyne McCann added a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 12.85 and also placed eighth in the 200 meters in 27.02 seconds. She later turned in a strong effort in the long jump, finishing fourth with a mark of 4.89 meters.
Brycelyn Townsend delivered a pair of event wins, taking first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.96 and adding another win in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.31.
In the distance events,
Courtney Adams led Belhaven in the 800 meters with a time of 2:35.26, followed by
Myisha Turner at 2:45.27 and
Destiny Griffin at 3:15.81.
Jocelyn Belonga recorded a time of 6:08.15 in the 1500 meters.
The Blazers have a little over a week without competition before hosting the CCS Track & Field Championships on Tuesday, April 21st.
