JACKSON, Miss. - Belhaven's strong start to the outdoor season continued this week as two Blazers earned recognition from the Collegiate Conference of the South.
Kenneth Mills was named the CCS Rookie Field Athlete of the Week while
Brycelyn Townsend collected CCS Rookie Track Athlete of the Week honors following their performances at the MC Spring Classic last Saturday.
Mills turned in a standout showing in the high jump at the MC Spring Classic, clearing 1.85 meters (6' 0.75") to finish second overall in the event. The freshman continued his impressive early season after opening the year with a 1.94 meter (6' 4.25") jump at the Samford Bulldog Open on February 14th, a mark that earned him a third-place finish and currently stands as one of the top marks by a CCS rookie this season.
On the track, Townsend earned Rookie Track Athlete of the Week honors after a strong performance in the 100-meter hurdles at the MC Spring Classic. The freshman recorded a time of 16.01 seconds, finishing fourth overall in the event.
Belhaven track and field will look to carry the momentum from the MC Spring Classic into the next stretch of the outdoor season as the Blazers host the Belhaven Invitational next Saturday.
