JACKSON, Miss. - Jimmy Byrd of the Belhaven Football team and Alexis Whiting of the Belhaven Women's Soccer team have been named C Spire Athletes of the Week following standout performances for the Blazers from last Wednesday through this past Tuesday.

Jimmy Byrd, a senior defensive end from Mt. Vernon, Ala., tied his career-high with two sacks last weekend at Greensboro while recording seven tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Whiting, a sophomore from Mandeville, La., recorded the match-winner on Senior Day against Millsaps and the game-tying goal on a penalty kick against Mississippi Christian last night.

Byrd and the Blazers Football team host Southern Virginia at 12:00 PM on Saturday as part of Homecoming Weekend. Whiting and the Blazers Women's Soccer team host Covenant in their CCS regular season finale on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
