Blazers Track & Field Compete at KMS Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belhaven Men's and Women's Track and Field teams continued the early portion of the indoor season on Sunday at the 2026 KMS Invitational, competing in their third indoor meet of the season.

On the women's side, senior Kimona Haynes continued a strong start to the indoor campaign in the 60 meters. Haynes qualified for the semifinals with a time of 8.03 seconds before lowering her time to 7.98 in the semifinals. She capped the event with an 8.04 in the final, placing sixth overall. Her semifinal mark represented her fastest run of the season.

Yasmine McCann also competed in the 60 meters, running it in 8.43 seconds in the prelims before improving to 8.34 in the semifinals.

Haynes followed with another standout performance in the 200 meters, finishing third overall with a time of 25.60 seconds. Freshman Brycelyn Townsend added a time of 28.67 in the event.

In the 600 meters, Courtney Adams led the Blazers with a time of 1:56.48, while Myisha Turner followed at 1:59.51. Destiny Griffin rounded out the group with a 2:24.43. All three athletes improved upon their previous indoor marks this season.

Distance events saw continued progress as Jocelyn Belonga ran a 6:40.58 in the mile, improving from her opening meet time earlier in the week by over 14 seconds. Ruth Dixon followed with a 7:26.85.

On the men's side, Julius Phillips highlighted the sprint group with a time of 22.66 seconds in the 200 meters, improving from his earlier indoor performances this season. Freshman Seth Haynes followed in the event with a 24.70.

The 400 meters featured Kenneth Mills leading Belhaven with a time of 52.97 seconds, while Leeson Taylor finished just behind at 53.06. Jaheem Cook recorded a 54.98 as the Blazers continued to gain experience in the longer sprint events.

Middle-distance action included Drew Duckworth pacing the men in the 600 meters with a 1:28.90, improving from his previous indoor effort. Jacob Turner followed with a 1:33.54. In the 800 meters, Peyton Vandevuss recorded a 2:26.69 in his second indoor race of the season.

Next up for the Blazers will be the Bulldog Invitational from Feb. 13-14 in Birmingham, Alabama.
