MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Men's and Women's Track & Field team wrapped up the final day of the CCS Championships with several individual titles and a third place finish for both teams.
Ashaunti Barnes grabbed first place in the Women's 400 Meters to repeat as conference champion with a time of 56.52 seconds with
Kimona Haynes right behind her at 56.72 seconds.
Syniah Sims added to her stellar freshman campaign with a dominating first place victory in the 100 Meters at 11.95 seconds. In the 200 Meters,
Kimona Haynes grabbed second place with a new program record of 24.79 seconds as
Ashaunti Barnes,
Syniah Sims, and
Evelle Dillon all finished in the top five of the event.
The Women's 4 x 100 Meter Relay team, comprised of
D'Asia Franklin,
Evelle Dillon,
Anneshia Greer, and
Jakia Joiner, took home first in the event with a blistering time of 49.80 seconds to earn another victory for Belhaven. The Women's 4 x 400 Meter Relay team would grab second place with an impressive time of 4:19.75.
Desire Tackett (4th) and
Jelecia Brown (7th) each placed in the Top 10 to record scoring finishes in the Women's Shot Put. Brown (6th) and
Taylor Hopgood (8th) added the Belhaven point total with scoring finishes in the Women's Discus.
Jakia Joiner earned a podium spot in the Women's Triple Jump, flnishing second with a distance of 10.63 meters.
On the Men's side,
Kelsey Singleton would take home first in the Men's 400 Meters with a time of 47.29 seconds as well as a second-place finish in the 200 Meters with a new program record of 21.14 seconds.
Tahli Clark joined Singleton on the podium, finishing third in the event.
Justice Moore and Clark placed well in the Men's 100 Meters with Moore placing third at 10.82 seconds and Clark fourth at 11.00 seconds even.
The Men's 4 x 400 Meter Relay Squad composed of
Wesley Bloodworth,
Caleb Drake,
Tahli Clark, and
Alex Reed secured another first place finish for Belhaven with a time of 3:24.81 to take home a conference title. The Men's 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team earned a third place finish with a time of 43.49 seconds.
Tyrone McPherson (4th) and
Lamarkis Branson (5th) performed well in their first CCS Championships action, leading the Blazers in the Men's Shot Put with Top-5 finishes. McPherson earned a third-place finish in the Men's Discus with a throw of 38.13 meters.
After winning a couple of conference titles on Tuesday,
Neal Terry continued his dominant run in the field events by claiming two more on Wednesday. Terry took home the CCS title in the Men's Pole Vault by clearing 3.95 meters with teammate Koby Rhone grabbing a third-place finish in the event. The sophomore standout followed that up with a first-place finish in the Men's Triple Jump with an impressive jump of 14.64 meters.
Both teams would place third in the CCS Championships in Year Two of the
Butch Ard era, which proved to be a historic season for both programs.
Several Blazers are set to compete in the NCAA National Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on March 25th.
