MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Belhaven Men's and Women's Track & Field programs opened up competition at the 2024 Collegiate Conference of the South Championships on Tuesday. The Belhaven Men sit in second place with 45 points after the opening day, while the Blazers' Women are tied for fourth with 26 points.

Jelecia Brown fell just short of a second consecutive CCS title in the Women's Hammer Throw, placing second with a throw of 39.89 meters. In the Women's High Jump, Evelle Dillon made the podium with a second-place finish, while D'Asia Franklin picked up five points for the Blazers with a fourth-place finish.

Jakia Joiner (6th) and Jamia Maddox (7th) each earned point finishes for Belhaven in the Women's Long Jump event.

On the Men's side, Neal Terry picked up two individual conference championships in the Men's High Jump and Long Jump. Alex Reed joined Terry on the podium with a third-place finish in the Long Jump event.

The Blazers' third CCS title of the day came from Benjamin Adams in the Javelin Throw. Adams has now won back-to-back CCS Javelin titles and five total conference titles in his career with three coming in the American Southwest Conference. Roderick Gordon placed second to help the Blazers grab 18 points in the event.

While many of the field events were decided on the first day, Tuesday also featured preliminary races for the track events.

Wednesday's portion of the CCS Outdoor Track & Field Championships begins at 12:00 PM with the Shot Put, Discus, Pole Vault, and Triple Jump before the track events get underway at 1:00 PM.
