MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Three members of the Belhaven Track & Field team opened up their weekend at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Thursday, the opening day of the three-day event.
Neal Terry saw the first action of the NCAA Championships for the Blazers as he competed in the Long Jump, the first of two events he'll compete in this weekend. Terry turned in jumps of 6.58 meters, 6.76 meters and 6.88 meters across the three attempts in preliminary competition. While he did not progress to the finals, Terry secured a top 20 national finish in the event and continues to add successes to his sophomore campaign. Terry will now prepare for the Triple Jump which is set for Saturday.
Syniah Sims competed in the first of her two events this weekend with the preliminary round of the Women's 200 Meters taking place on Thursday evening. Sims posted a time of 25.28 seconds in the pre-lims and placed 22nd in the event. Sims will now turn her attention to the 100 Meters set for Friday evening.
Kelsey Singleton wrapped up the day for Belhaven, competing in the Men's 200 Meters, the first of two events he is qualified for at the NCAA Championships. Singleton placed 16th overall in the pre-lims with a time of 21.34 seconds which was less than two-tenths of a second off the qualifying times. Singleton still has the 400 Meters to compete in with pre-lims set for Friday afternoon.
The Blazers will have four athletes in action on Day Two at the NCAA Championships as
Ashaunti Barnes and
Kimona Haynes are set for the first round of the Women's 400 Meters at 4:00 PM CT with
Kelsey Singleton competing in the first round of the Men's 400 Meters just 15 minutes later.
Syniah Sims will then compete in the first round of the Women's 100 Meters at 4:30 PM CT.
