JACKSON, Miss. -
Syniah Sims of the Belhaven Women's Track & Field program has qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships set to take place this Friday and Saturday in Virginia Beach.
Sims, a freshman for the Blazers, earned qualification in the Women's 60 Meters, through her time in the event at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker hosted by Birmingham-Southern in December. At the Birmingham meet, Sims posted a time of 7.66 seconds which ranks as the joint-12th fastest time nationally in Division III and marks a program best for Belhaven while sitting less than two-tenths of a second off the national leader.
"We are excited to have Syniah competing in the indoor national meet", said Belhaven Track & Field Director
Butch Ard. "To make it here as a freshman is not easy, but she had a phenomenal indoor season, made her mark as one of the fastest in the nation, and definitely deserves this trip."
Sims is one of just two athletes from the Collegiate Conference of the South who qualified for the National Championship meet and will be looking to continue making her mark in a stellar freshman campaign.
The Georgia native will open up her weekend in Virginia in the 60 Meter Prelims on Friday at 1:00 PM Central with hopes of qualifying to the event final on Saturday at 2:25 PM Central.
