JACKSON, Miss. - The Blazers took three of the four Collegiate Conference of the South weekly honors as
Kimona Haynes was named CCS Women's Track Athlete of the Week,
Yasmyne McCann earned CCS Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and
Mallory Golden was selected as CCS Rookie Field Athlete of the Week.
Haynes delivered one of the top performances in the country last weekend, sweeping both the 200-meter and 400-meter events at the Belhaven Invitational. Haynes, a senior from Jackson, Miss. finished first in the 200M with a personal-best time of 24.26 seconds in a field of 18 competitors before returning to win the 400m in 55.06 seconds against 21 runners. Both marks currently stand as the fastest times in NCAA Division III this season.
McCann continued her strong outdoor campaign with a personal-best effort in the long jump. The sophomore recorded a mark of 5.13 meters (16' 10"), finishing fifth out of 19 competitors. Her jump marked an improvement of 0.30 meters from her previous season-best and ranks among the top performances in the conference early in the outdoor season.Â
Golden added to the Blazers' success in the field events, matching her outdoor personal best in the high jump. The freshman cleared 1.50 meters (4' 11"), finishing tied for fifth in a field of nine competitors. Golden also posted the same mark earlier this season.
The Blazers' next meet is another home meet next Thursday, April 2nd.
