JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Track & Field program hosted their home invitational on Saturday and put together a stellar showing with a pair of event wins and numerous program records set.
Syniah Sims took first place for the Blazers in the Women's 200 Meters as she continues to put together a stellar first-year campaign. Sims posted a time of 24.58 seconds which also set a new mark as a program best. Sims also bested her own record in the Women's 100 Meters on Saturday, placing second at the meet with a time of 11.86 seconds.
Jakia Joiner joined Sims as an event winner on the day as she took top spot in the Women's Triple Jump with a distance of 10.76 Meters. Along with the individual achievements, the Belhaven Women saw success in the 4 x 100 Meter Relay as
Ashaunti Barnes,
Kimona Haynes,
Anneshia Greer and
Syniah Sims set a new program record with a time of 47.87 seconds.
On the Men's side,
Kelsey Singleton set a new program best in the Men's 200 Meters, placing among the meet leaders with a time of 21.32 seconds.
Neal Terry also showed his prowess as a two-sport athlete, finishing in the top five in the Men's Long Jump with a program record distance of 6.75 meters.
The Belhaven Men's 4 x 100 Meter Relay team also set a new program high mark as
Devin Moore,
Kelsey Singleton,
Sylvester Sims and
Tahli Clark posted a mark of 41.53 seconds.
Benjamin Adams tallied a strong finish in the Men's Javelin, placing second with a distance of 48.94 meters.
Belhaven continues their strong season on March 29th and 30th as they travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to compete in the USM Invitational.
