BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belhaven Track & Field program made their way to Birmingham over the weekend to compete in the Samford  Open, an indoor meet hosted by Samford University.
It was a successful meet for the Blazers as they saw a pair of program records fall, marking six new records set in the first two indoor meets of the season.
The day was highlighted on the Women's side by
Jakia Joiner who set a new program mark in the Triple Jump at 11.15 Meters. Joiner's new mark bested her own record set in December of last year and earned her 4th place on the day.
Kelsey Singleton also put his name into the record book with a 6th place finish in the Men's 400 Meters and a time of 49.71 seconds. Singleton's time set a new record for the program, breaking the mark previously held by Belhaven great Kelton Kemp.
Along with the two record-setting performances, TyKell Thomas landed a top 10 finish for the Men in the 60 Meter Hurdles while
Makaleb Crowley (Triple Jump),
Justice Moore (200 Meters) and
Alex Reed (Long Jump) posted top 15 finishes.
Syniah Sims tallied a top 5 finish for the Women in the 60 Meters and a top 15 finish in the 200 Meters.
Jelecia Brown also finished inside the top 15 in the Shot Put.
The Blazers will now turn their attention to the Rose-Hulman Night Series on January 26th in Terre Haute, Indiana.Â
