TEMPLE, Texas - The Belhaven Golf team wrapped up their trip to the Lone Star State on Tuesday as they finished play in the UMHB Invitational, placing 9th among 12 teams in a competitve field.
Will Justice led the way for the Blazers on the final day of action as the Texas native turned in an under par round shooting a 69 (-1) which propelled him to an even finish on the tournament and a joint 11th place finish. Justice carded a team-best 140 (E) across the two rounds of play and displayed consistency as he led the entire field in pars made with 30 across 36 holes.Â
After a stellar first day,
Gannon Williams ended his tournament with a 77 (+7) which landed him a Top 30 finish among individuals. Williams, who carded a 69 (-1) in the opening round, finished the two-day event with an eagle and set the tone for the Blazers early on.
Luke Couch ended his tournament with a 75 (+5) and turned in a 147 (+7) across the two rounds which placed him in the top half of individual competitors.
Andrew Scherer finished t-49th and turned in the final counting score for Belhaven this week as he improved on his opening round 77 (+7) with a 75 (+5) on day two.
Jake Shmonov ended his time in Texas with a 79 (+9) and finished +13 across the two rounds while
Wyatt Carter ended his two days +27 and rounded out the Blazers' group.Â
Belhaven's two day team score totaled 582 (+22) with their best day coming on Monday as they shot a 286 (+6) which is the lowest total round score for the program since 2014-15.Â
The Blazers will jump back into action next week as they head to Douglasville, Georgia to compete in the West Pines Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe. Tee times for Monday and Tuesday will be announced at a later date.Â
