BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belhaven University Track and Field teams competed in the Samford Bulldog Open on Saturday in the Birmingham Crossplex.
On the women's side, Kelsi Bouldin, Aadreona Connor, and Anneshia Greer competed in the 60-meter dash and finished within 0.03 seconds from each other. They also competed in the 200m dash along with Frances Knight, Ashaunti Barnes, Maurissa Winford, and Ellie Brooker. Ashaunti Barnes finished in the top 20 to lead the Blazers in the 400m dash. Francie LeDuff rounded out the running events for the Green and Gold as she was the lone competitor for the Blazers in the 1-mile Run.
In the field events, Desire Tackett competed in the Shot Put and finished with a distance of 8.37m. She also participated in the Weight Throw and concluded the event with a throw of 9.02m.
On the men's side, Kelton Kemp lowered his school records in the 60 hurdles and the 400m dash. In the 60m hurdles Kemp finished in 11th place out 18 competitors. In the 400, Kelton finished in 5th place, which was the highest finish for the Blazers in this meet. Christian Venzen led the Blazers in the 200 with a 23.05 finish followed by Charles Wilson. Keandre Fultz and Michael Bonds also competed in the event. Hunter Magno-Hester, Javarcea Thomas, Theodore McCarty, and Jesse White finished right behind each other. Hester was the first finisher for the Blazers in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:55.78. Charles Walker was the only Blazer to compete in the 3000, while Matthew Taylor was the lone Blazer to compete in the 5000.
In the field events, Charles Wilson competed in the Long Jumps and had the longest jump for the Blazers with a distance of 6.16m. Standish Dyson and Master Davis finished in the top 15 in the Shot Put, while Jordan Wakefield finished in 17th place. Standish Dyson had the longest throw for the Blazers in the Weight Throw with a throw of 11.01m.
The Blazers will return to action on February 19 in the ASC Cross Country Championships in Austin, Texas, hosted by Concordia University.
