The Belhaven Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed at the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Championships on Friday morning at John Hunt Cross Country Park, hosted by the Huntsville Sports Commission. Both squads placed fifth in their respective races.
On the men's side, Belhaven placed fifth overall with 122 points and a combined team time of 2:32:07.17, averaging 30:25 per runner. Senior
Garrett Masters led the Blazers with a strong finish at 29:22.88, followed by
Donovan Hurst (30:08.00),
Max Bowling (30:11.23), and
Andrew Duckworth (30:50.24).
Matthew Wells (31:34.82) completed Belhaven's scoring five, while Peyton Vandevuss (32:52.79) provided additional depth.
Covenant College claimed the men's conference title with 26 points behind five top-15 finishers, while Layton Bradford of Piedmont won the individual crown in 26:04.00. Duckworth represented Belhaven on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team,
The Belhaven women placed seventh overall with a total team score of 152 points and an average time of 31:10.99. Senior
Myisha Turner paced the Blazers with a time of 30:32.11, followed closely by
Brycelyn Townsend (30:35.07) and
Ruth Dixon (31:09.98).
Courtney Adams (31:10.74) and
Jocelyn Belonga (32:27.02) rounded out Belhaven's top five scorers.
The field was led by Asbury University's Bailey Gassmann, who claimed the individual title in 23:28.48, as Asbury captured the women's team championship with 32 points. Turner was honored as Belhaven's representative on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team.
