BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Belhaven men's and women's track and field team competed at the Samford Open at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The meet consisted of schools in NCAA Division I, II, III, and the NAIA.
On the women's side,
Kelsi Bouldin and
Aadreona Conner competed in the 60m dash and crossed the finish line at the 8.50 and 8.77 marks.
Ashaunti Barnes led the Blazers in the 200m dash with a time of 28.18.
Frances Knight finished the race in 28.43 and
Kelsi Bouldin finished at the 28.65 mark.
Aadreona Conner and
Ellie Brooker were the final two Blazers to compete in the 200m dash. Additionally,
Ashaunti Barnes, Maurissa Winford,
Ellie Brooker, and
Frances Knight finished in 11
th, 15
th, 20
th, and 22
nd place in the race.
In the field events,
Neely Brunt threw the shot put and finished with a distance of 8.09m. She also competed in the Weight Throw and ended the day with a distance of 6.19m.
On the men's side,
Christian Venzen led the way for the Blazers in the 60m dash with a 7.30 time followed by Keandre Fultz and Michael Bounds.
Kelton Kemp was the lone Blazer to compete in the 60m Hurdles prelims. He finished the race with a time of 8.73, which qualified him for the finals. He improved his time in the finals with a time of 8.60, which was good enough for a 5
th place finish.
In the 200m dash,
Christian Venzen finished the race in 12
th place followed by Charles Wilson in 13
th. Keandre Fultz finished in 24 seconds, while Michael Bounds and Everett Gainer concluded the race for the Blazers.
Kelton Kemp and Everett Gainer were the only two competitors for the Blazers. Kemp finished with a time of 51.65 followed by Gainer's 57.34 time.
Hunter Magno-Hester and Theodore McCarty ran in both the 800 and the one mile run.
Matthew Taylor was the only Blazer to compete in the 5000 and he finished with a time of 18:56.98.
In the field events, Standish Dyson finished the Shot Put with a throw of 10.69m, which was the top throw for the Blazers. QuoShane Kelly and Master Davis also competed in the Shot Put and finished with a distance of 10.01m and 9.60m, respectively.
Charles Wilson competed in the Triple Jump and concluded the day in 4
th place and a jump of 13.36. The Weight Throw was the final event that the Blazers competed in and Master Davis led the way with a throw of 10.28m. Standish Dyson and Jarron Archuleta rounded out the Weight Throw with a distance of 9.89 and 7.59m.
