MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Belhaven baseball team built a quick 5-0 lead only to see Brewton-Parker rally for a 9-5 win in game three of a three game Southern States Athletic Conference series on Saturday afternoon. Things were going the Blazers way until the Barons turned the game around with five runs in the bottom of the second before adding three in the third and one in the fifth en route to the win. Belhaven dropped two out of three on the weekend after winning game one Friday 11-0.
Belhaven (26-14, 11-7 SSAC) exploded for three runs in the top of the first with the aid of two hits and a couple of wild pitches. Left fielder
Dominick Francia walked to start the game and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. Second baseman
Ryne Cook legged out an infield single and on a double steal with Francia moved to second.

Jason Hicks struck out, but made it to first on a wild pitch while Francia crossed the plate to make it a 1-0 game. Catcher

Bud Britt plated Hicks with a sac fly to center field extending Belhaven's lead to 3-0.

Hamilton Harper made it safely aboard with infield hits to put runners on first and second. Shortstop
Josiah Richard moved both runners up on a sac bunt and Francia doubled in Rutledge for the fourth Blazer run. Cook lifted a sac fly to center field chasing home Harper to make it 5-0.
Brewton-Parker (17-10, 10-5 SSAC) swung the game in their favor in the third with six hits after two batters had been retired by Belhaven starter
Jonathan Thompson. Little did everyone know that a two out single by right fielder Billy Mullins would be the catalyst for the five run inning. All of a sudden the Barons bats caught fire lobbing hit after hit into the outfield.
Shortstop Edgar Delgado drove in the first two runs with a base loaded single to center followed by another two run single off the bat of third baseman Chris Carr. An RBI double by center fielder Jon Kemmer tied the game at 5-5 before the Blazers were finally able to get out of the inning.
Brewton-Parker kept the pressure on in the third and took the lead with three runs. Delgado delivered another two run single and Kemmer drew a bases loaded walk to make it an 8-5 contest. The Barons added one more run in the fifth on a sac fly by Carr to cap the scoring. Meanwhile, Jeremy Coram who had been on the ropes after the first two innings, settled in and shutout Belhaven the rest of the afternoon.
Coram pitched all nine innings and allowed the five runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts. The win for Coram improved his record to a perfect 6-0 this season. Delgado hurt the Blazers with four hits, four RBI's and three runs scored as he had a hand in seven of the nine runs. Mullins and catcher Kody Johnston had three hits followed by Carr with two hits and three runs batted in. The Barons went on to outhit Belhaven 15-8.
Thompson suffered the loss for Belhaven, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and one walk in two plus innings of work. The loss drops Thompson's record to 2-2 this season. Wheeler had two hits in four plate appearances in addition to one RBI to lead the Belhaven offense. Francia, Cook, and Britt each had one hit and one run batted in.
The Blazers will look to regroup next weekend when they host the University of Mobile for a three game Southern States Athletic Conference series at Smith-Wills Stadium. Game one is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday night.
