Hicks, a native of Brandon, MS, is transferred into the program after the 2011 season at NCAA Division I University of Louisiana-Monroe. Hicks played in 35 games and started 24 at ULM where he hit at a .255 clip. He began his collegiate career in 2009 at Hinds Community College and compiled a .353 batting average with eight home runs, 14 doubles, and swiped 15 bases in 18 attempts. Hicks redshirted during the 2010 season due to an injury. Hicks prepped at Brandon High School and was selected to play in the Mississippi High School All-Star Game.

Belhaven
Hicks was one of the most complete players on last year's Blazers squad with a .286 batting average and 17 RBI. He also had 16 extra base hits including putting three balls over the fence. Hicks led Belhaven in 2012 with 16 stolen bases, not getting caught once during the season.
