Blazers Drop Two at #9 Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Belhaven baseball team lost both games of a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at #9 Faulkner University Friday afternoon.  The Blazers lost game one 7-2 and fell in game two 10-0. Friday's contest's marked the SSAC opener's for both teams.
 
Game One
Faulkner (11-1, 2-0 SSAC) got right to work in the home half of the first inning in game one scoring three times. Unfortunately, it would be a sign of things to come for the rest of the day. Eagle's right fielder David Bishop blasted a three run homer in the first accounting for all of the scoring in the inning.
 
Belhaven (7-6, 0-2 SSAC) scored one of their two runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Kyle Wheeler. Right fielder Reagan Rutledge was a hit by a pitch to start the inning and came in to score on the play.
 
Faulkner countered with two more runs in the bottom of the third on another home run; this time off the bat of third baseman Sergio Sanchez. The Eagles added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings accounting for the seven run total. Belhaven's only other run was plated in the fourth when left fielder Majer Entabi cross the plate on a passed ball.
 
Andrew Gunn (0-1) started on the hill for Belhaven and suffered the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in 3.1 innings of work. Michael Wurster surrendered one run in 2.2 innings of relief work.
 
The Blazers were limited to just four hits with two coming off the bat of second baseman Jason Hicks. Wheeler had the only run batted in of the game for Belhaven.
 
Will Dismukes (2-0) tossed a seven inning complete game to earn his second win of the season. Dismukes gave up two runs on four hits with six walks and seven strikeouts.
 
Game Two
Faulkner struck quickly again in game two, plating four runs in the second inning. The big shot in the inning was a two run triple off the bat of Brook Boudreaux. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Boudreaux and a run scoring single by Michael Cruz.
 
Meanwhile, Belhaven couldn't get much going at the plate against Eagles pitcher Johnny Shuttlesworth who shutout the Blazers over the course of seven innings. He allowed just three hits and struck out six. In the bottom of the seventh, Faulkner scored four more times putting the 10 run rule into effect.
 
Wheeler was a bright spot on offense, collecting two of the Blazers three hits. On the mound, Chris Good (3-2) started and suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Austin McCann was charged with the other two Eagles runs in 0.2 innings on the mound.
 
Cruz led Faulkner at the dish with three hits, three RBI's and three runs scored followed by Boudreux who collected two hits and three runs batted in. The Eagles outhit Belhaven 13-3 in game two.
Belhaven will wrap up its three game SSAC series with Faulkner on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM.
