HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The Belhaven Men's and Women's Cross Country teams traveled to the Sand Shark Invitational on Saturday for their final tune up prior to the Southern States Athletic Conference Championships on November 3rd at Choctaw Trails.
The Belhaven women were once again led by
Chloe Brown, who finished in 72nd place out of 141 runners. Brown finished with a time of 21:25 and had a pace of 6:54 minutes per mile in the 5k event.
Following her was
Sarah McCallister in 90th,
Sarah Rivera in 103rd and
Seraphine Lin in 115th. The Blazers were unable to score as a team because they didn't field five healthy runners for the meet.
On the men's side,
Thorburn McGee paced the Blazers and has been the team's top finisher for most of the season. McGee finished the 8k event in 28:51.52, which was good for 69th place.
Matthew Fox crossed the finish line in 81st place followed by
Andrew Sinclair in 82nd,
Ben Storment in 84th, and
John Lane in 91st out of 151 runners.
Embry-Riddle University (FL) took home the team titles on both the men's and women's sides Saturday morning. The Eagles also boasted the two individual champions with Evans Kirwa taking the top spot for the men with a time of 24:05.21. Ellie Staker won the women's race with a time of 17:18.32
The two teams will take next weekend off and return to the course for the SSAC Championships, hosted by Belhaven.
