Jackson, MS- The Belhaven women's soccer team got back on track Friday afternoon with a win over Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Southern Wesleyan 4-0. The Blazers picked up the win after dropping their previous two contests at Shorter University and Lee University. The win gives the Blazers a season record of 5-6-1 and 3-3 in conference play.
Belhaven (5-6-1, SSAC 3-3) started off the contest slow, but were able to gain their composure and put up a goal late in the first half off the foot of
Rebecca Ontero in the 44th minute. She was assisted by
Chelsea DeLeon. Ontero's goal was the only one in the first half giving the Blazers a 1-0 advantage at the break.
In the opening minute of the second half, (45thminute)
Rebecca Ontero scored her 2nd goal of the contest which was setup by a perfect cross from
Christin Kaim. In the 50th minute,
Kimber Dear hit a goal giving the Blazers a 3-0 lead.
Christin Kaim rounded out the Blazers scoring in the 56th with her sixth goal of the season.
The Blazers outshot the Warriors 23-7 with 12 of those shots on goal. Ontero led the Blazers on offense scoring two goals in the contest out of seven shot attempts. Her two scores give her 10 on the season.
Kimber Dear and
Christin Kaim each turned in a goal apiece for the Blazers. For the Warriors, Allison Johns had two on goal shot attempts.
Nicole Walsh earned three saves for the Blazers and did not allow any goals en route to picking up her 5th win of the season. Ashley Robinson turned in eight saves while giving up four goals dropping her season record to 2-8-1.
Belhaven will be back action on Saturday against Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Truett-McConnell at H.T. Newell Field. Game-time is slated for 5:00 PM.
