Alumni Spotlight: Kyla Shaw

What are you currently doing professionally, and how did your time at Belhaven help prepare you for it?

"I am currently working as a tax accountant in Metairie, Louisiana. I began my position immediately after graduation while simultaneously starting Belhaven's Master's program online. I completed the program in one year and am now dedicating my time to studying and passing all four parts of the CPA exam. My education at Belhaven helped prepare me for this demanding process by building a strong foundation in accounting and strengthening the skills necessary to succeed in a professional environment."

Why did you choose Belhaven?

"From my very first visit to Belhaven, I felt how welcoming and supportive the coaches and other players were. The environment immediately felt like a place where I could grow both personally and professionally. I knew I wanted to be somewhere that would challenge me academically while also supporting my goals beyond the classroom. Belhaven's accounting program gave me the education I hoped for and helped me secure a job right out of college. It was the perfect choice for me to continue the sport I love as well as pursue my education."

What is your favorite memory from your time as a Blazer?

"One of my favorite memories at Belhaven was scoring a hat trick in the quarterfinals in front of my family, which made the moment even more special. Having them there to witness such a big game in my collegiate career is something I'll never forget."

What do you miss the most from your time at Belhaven?

"What stands out to me most about my time at Belhaven is the combination of soccer and the relationships I built along the way. Getting to play the sport I love while spending every single day with some of my closest friends is something I'll always cherish."

How do you stay involved with the game of soccer today?

"I love coming back for the alumni game and the 7v7 tournament. I like staying active and playing pickle ball, but I hope sometime soon when I am done studying for the CPA exam to join a women's/co-ed league."

Who is the best player you played with?

"Emma (Antonoplos). always shined on the field. I was able to come back for the championship game this year, and I got to watch her play again. She was an amazing player when she joined, but I have seen her grow and become more and more confident throughout the years. Her statistics at Belhaven speak for themselves. Nobody could come remotely close to stopping her. She was an integral part of Belhaven's success this past year."
