HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Alexis Whiting and
Abby Jordan scored 7:13 apart in the second half Saturday, lifting Belhaven to a 2-0 win over Huntingdon and a second consecutive CCS Women's Soccer Championship.
The Blazers earned the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship for the second straight year. After finishing runner-up in 2024 and winning their first CCS title last season, they leave Huntsville with a trophy from their third consecutive final.
Belhaven pressed for a goal throughout the first half.
Kinsey Carter and
Alyssa Wilson each forced saves from Huntingdon goalkeeper Libby Williams in the opening 11 minutes and a
Mary McCardle attempt in the 14th minute was turned away for a team save. The Blazers went into halftime with a 9-1 advantage in shots and had taken all five corner kicks, but the match remained scoreless.
Huntingdon threatened immediately after the break. Angelina Mazza put a shot on target following a corner kick, and
Addi Roberts made her first save of the night. Whiting broke through for Belhaven at 54:48, ending a stretch of 200 scoreless minutes for the Hawks in the tournament. Jordan doubled the lead at 62:01, giving the Blazers two goals in just over seven minutes.
Huntingdon took five of its six shots in the second half, but Roberts stopped Mazza's effort in the 84th minute to preserve the shutout. Shaylinn McFarland, the Hawks' leading scorer, finished with two shots, neither on target.
Belhaven outshot Huntingdon 13-6, put seven shots on goal to the Hawks' two and held a 6-1 edge in corners. Carter and Wilson led the Blazers with four shots apiece. Williams made four saves for Huntingdon, while Roberts finished with two in Belhaven's ninth shutout of the season.
The teams' two CCS postseason meetings have now ended the same way: Belhaven beat Huntingdon 2-0 in the 2022 quarterfinals for its first conference tournament victory. Saturday's result was the Blazers' sixth consecutive shutout against the Hawks.
Roberts was named CCS Tournament MVP after making 10 saves and stopping two penalty kicks in Friday's semifinal against Asbury, then keeping Huntingdon scoreless in the final.
McCardle and
McKenzee Gregory, who both scored against Asbury, joined her on the All-Tournament Team.
The Blazers will await their fate in the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins next Saturday. The selection show will air on Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT.
