The Regional at a Glance
The Marshall Regional brings together four teams that have all played meaningful postseason baseball over the last two weeks.

ETBU is hosting for the fourth consecutive season and enters as the No. 1 seed after winning the ASC Tournament Championship. The Tigers are 33-10 overall, went unbeaten in ASC play, and captured their third conference tournament title in the last four years.

Belhaven enters as the No. 2 seed after earning an at-large bid into the field. The Blazers are making their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance after finishing 31-13 and reaching the CCS Championship Game for the second consecutive season.

Rhodes, the No. 3 seed, also earned an at-large bid after finishing as the Southern Athletic Association Tournament runner-up. The Lynx enter at 29-15 and bring one of the stronger offensive profiles in the regional.

Concordia Texas rounds out the field as the No. 4 seed after winning the SCAC Tournament Championship. The Tornados are 29-15 and enter the regional on a six-game winning streak after scoring 44 runs across four games during their conference tournament run.

There are several familiar storylines in the field. Belhaven is 7-16 all-time against ETBU but has won the last four meetings, including a three-game sweep of the Tigers earlier this season. Rhodes leads the all-time series against Belhaven, 10-4, and took both regular-season meetings this spring. Concordia Texas leads the all-time series against ETBU, 27-16, although the programs have not met since 2024.

No. 1 East Texas Baptist Tigers

Record: 33-10
Conference: American Southwest Conference
Bid: Automatic qualifier, ASC Tournament Champion
NPI: No. 18
Opening Game: Friday vs. Concordia Texas, 11:00 a.m.

ETBU enters the regional as the host, the top seed, and a team that has been one of the most dangerous offenses in Division III all season.

The Tigers went 12-0 in ASC play to win the regular season championship, then followed it by winning the ASC Tournament title for the second straight year and third time in four seasons. ETBU clinched the championship with a 5-3 win over Hardin-Simmons, using four home runs and a strong relief outing from Conner Smeltzer to secure the automatic bid.

Smeltzer, who was named ASC Tournament MVP, threw five scoreless innings in relief in the championship game, allowing four hits and striking out a career-high eight. ETBU also got home runs in the title game from Joaquin Costa, Jobee Boone, Brody Tewers, and Kahne Nolen.

The Tigers' season numbers back up the power. ETBU enters the regional hitting .330 as a team with 416 runs, 460 hits, 102 doubles, 12 triples, 66 home runs, and 383 RBI. The Tigers also carry a .453 on-base percentage and a .563 slugging percentage into the postseason.

Carter Nannini leads the Tigers in batting average at .418 with 41 hits, 26 RBI, and a .504 on-base percentage. Connor Massimini has been one of the top run producers in the region, hitting .377 with 13 home runs, 52 RBI, 52 runs scored, and a .705 slugging percentage. Carson Livesay, the ASC Player of the Year, is hitting .372 with 58 hits, 53 runs, six home runs, and 48 RBI.

The Tigers also have depth throughout the order. Jobee Boone is hitting .352 with 44 hits, 31 RBI, and 15 stolen bases, while Costa has 60 hits, 43 runs, 35 RBI, 13 doubles, and five home runs. Nolen brings another power threat with 11 home runs and a team-best .802 slugging percentage.

On the mound, Isaac Thornton has helped lead the rotation, entering at 7-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 71.2 innings. Aiden Leonard is 7-0 with a 3.67 ERA and 42 strikeouts, while Tyler Bogusz owns a team-best 3.33 ERA across 46.0 innings. Smeltzer has gone 4-0 with two saves, and Cody Myers has added 43 strikeouts in 43.0 innings.

ETBU's postseason honors reflect its regular-season dominance. Livesay was named ASC Player of the Year, Thornton was selected as ASC Newcomer of the Year, Nannini earned ASC Freshman of the Year, Smeltzer was named ASC Tournament MVP, and the ETBU coaching staff shared ASC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Key storyline: ETBU is the host and top seed, but the Tigers may have a potential rematch looming with Belhaven, a team that swept them earlier this season in Jackson.

No. 2 Belhaven Blazers

Record: 31-13
Conference: Collegiate Conference of the South
Bid: At-large selection
NPI: No. 19
Opening Game: Friday vs. Rhodes, 2:30 p.m.

Belhaven is back in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

The Blazers earned an at-large bid after going 31-13 and making another deep run through the CCS Tournament, reaching the conference championship game for the second consecutive year. Belhaven spent much of the season nationally ranked and climbed as high as No. 4 in the D3baseball.com Top 25, the highest ranking in program history.

The Blazers enter the regional with a balanced roster. Offensively, Belhaven is hitting .313 with 343 runs, 454 hits, 70 doubles, 16 triples, 29 home runs, and 297 RBI. The Blazers have also stolen 84 bases and posted a .421 on-base percentage.

Austin Canale leads the everyday lineup with a .358 average, 62 hits, 44 runs, 11 doubles, and 43 RBI. Hayden Roberts is hitting .347 with 43 hits, 32 RBI, and 11 stolen bases, while Parker Ryan has added a .336 average, six home runs, 28 RBI, and a .446 on-base percentage. Owen Abney, a Second Team All-CCS selection, is hitting .327 with 51 hits, five home runs, and 39 RBI.

Belhaven's depth also showed in the CCS Tournament. The Blazers went 3-2 in tournament play, hitting .370 with 43 runs, 64 hits, 16 doubles, and a .491 slugging percentage across five games. Jake McCann hit .467 with seven hits and eight runs, Trey Smith hit .500, Ryan slugged .737, and Blake McCarthy finished with nine hits and four doubles.

On the mound, John Wade has anchored the back end of the bullpen. The sophomore closer enters with a 3-0 record, 1.10 ERA, eight saves, and 24 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. Gunner Staten has been one of Belhaven's top starters, going 5-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 59.0 innings. Cole Burton is also 5-2 with 45 strikeouts, while Roberts has contributed both offensively and on the mound.

The Blazers placed five players on the All-CCS teams. Ryan, Canale, Staten, and Wade earned First Team honors, while Abney was named to the Second Team. Trey Smith represented Belhaven on the CCS All-Sportsmanship Team.

Belhaven's opener comes against a Rhodes team that has already beaten the Blazers twice this season. The Blazers are 4-10 all-time against Rhodes, but they enter the weekend with confidence from their success against the host Tigers. Belhaven swept then-No. 25 ETBU earlier this season in Jackson, outscoring the Tigers 24-8 across the three-game series.

Key storyline: Belhaven has already beaten the top seed three times this season, but first the Blazers have to solve a Rhodes team that took both regular-season meetings.

No. 3 Rhodes Lynx

Record: 29-15
Conference: Southern Athletic Association
Bid: At-large selection
NPI: No. 35
Opening Game: Friday vs. Belhaven, 2:30 p.m.

Rhodes enters the regional after a strong first season under head coach Rob Schrier.

The Lynx finished as the SAA Tournament runner-up after falling to Centre, 11-3, in the championship game in Rome, Georgia. Centre jumped ahead early in the title game, but Rhodes still collected eight hits, including two-hit games from Ben Daniel, Corbin Martens, and Brad Larson.

The Lynx bring a dangerous lineup to Marshall. Rhodes enters the regional hitting .300 as a team with 363 runs, 443 hits, 91 doubles, 49 home runs, and 330 RBI. The Lynx also have an .413 on-base percentage, a .464 slugging percentage, and 81 stolen bases.

Austin Smith leads Rhodes with a .371 batting average and a .525 on-base percentage, while also scoring 37 runs and stealing 18 bases. Larson is hitting .365 with 65 hits, 47 runs, seven home runs, 44 RBI, and 15 stolen bases. Daniel has been one of the most consistent bats in the lineup, hitting .349 with 52 hits, 15 doubles, three home runs, and 25 RBI.

Martens, the SAA Rookie of the Year, gives the Lynx one of the top power bats in the regional. He is hitting .333 with 14 home runs, 55 RBI, and a .673 slugging percentage. Cooper Angilly has added a .317 average, 51 hits, four home runs, and 33 RBI from behind the plate.

On the mound, Rhodes has several arms capable of handling postseason situations. David Albert is 7-1 with a 3.11 ERA and 42 strikeouts, while Jackson Stanyard is 3-0 with a 2.93 ERA and 44 strikeouts. Ryan Fallmann is 4-0 with 56 strikeouts, and Andrew Carron owns a 2.55 ERA with three saves across 18 appearances.

Rhodes was well represented in the SAA postseason awards. Martens was named Rookie of the Year, while Schrier and his staff shared Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Larson, Albert, Stanyard, Angilly, and Daniel earned First Team All-SAA selections, while Smith and Will May were named to the Second Team.

The Lynx open against a familiar opponent in Belhaven. Rhodes leads the all-time series 10-4 and is 2-0 against the Blazers this season, including a top-25 win in Memphis.

Key storyline: Rhodes already owns two wins over Belhaven this season and has the lineup depth to make a third meeting just as difficult.

No. 4 Concordia Texas Tornados

Record: 29-15
Conference: Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
Bid: Automatic qualifier, SCAC Tournament Champion
NPI: No. 94
Opening Game: Friday vs. ETBU, 11:00 a.m.

Concordia Texas enters the regional as one of the hottest teams in the field.

The Tornados won their first-ever SCAC Championship and sixth conference title overall with a perfect 4-0 run through the conference tournament. Concordia Texas scored 44 runs across four games and capped the weekend with a 10-5 win over LeTourneau in the championship game.

The title game showed the balance that carried the Tornados through the tournament. Louis Alonzo doubled in the first inning, Landon Hyle followed with a two-run triple, and Concordia Texas continued to answer each LeTourneau push. The Tornados broke the game open with four runs in the eighth, highlighted by an RBI triple from Alonzo and a two-run home run from Ty Klaus-Kismore. Gavin Voth earned the win in relief after throwing four scoreless innings.

Alonzo also made conference tournament history, setting a new SCAC single-tournament record with 13 hits. He was joined on the SCAC All-Tournament Team by Kalen Clark, Hyle, Samuel Ortiz, Jake Runnells, Logan Smith, and Voth.

The Tornados enter the regional hitting .313 with 334 runs, 474 hits, 91 doubles, 14 triples, 31 home runs, and 306 RBI. Concordia Texas also brings a .404 on-base percentage, a .453 slugging percentage, and 61 stolen bases.

Alonzo leads Concordia Texas with a .390 average, 48 hits, 35 runs, 34 RBI, and a .490 on-base percentage. Hyle, a First Team All-SCAC selection, is hitting .365 with 61 hits, 15 doubles, six home runs, and 47 RBI. Clark adds another high-level bat with a .362 average, 17 doubles, eight home runs, 39 RBI, a .505 on-base percentage, and a .638 slugging percentage.

Smith is hitting .333 with 49 hits and 27 RBI, Warner is at .326 with 43 hits and 31 RBI, and Ortiz has collected 55 hits with 36 RBI. Carson Riley adds a different element, going 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts.

On the mound, Concordia Texas enters with a 4.96 staff ERA and 291 strikeouts. Runnells has been one of the top relief arms, posting a 1.95 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 19 appearances. Chase North owns a 2.55 ERA with two saves, while Voth is 3-3 with a 3.50 ERA and 35 strikeouts. Jackson Low has 44 strikeouts, and Rowdy Hoadley has added 43 strikeouts across a team-high 62.1 innings.

The Tornados also feature the best fielding percentage in the regional at .973 and have turned 107 double plays.

Concordia Texas opens against an ETBU program it knows well historically. The Tornados lead the all-time series 27-16, although the teams have not met since 2024.

Key storyline: Concordia Texas is the No. 4 seed, but the Tornados enter with a six-game winning streak, a hot offense, and momentum from a perfect SCAC Tournament run.

Matchups to Watch
ETBU's power against Concordia Texas' momentum
ETBU leads the regional with 66 home runs and 416 runs scored, while Concordia Texas comes in having won six straight and scored 44 runs in four SCAC Tournament games. The opening game brings together the regional's top seed and one of the hottest teams in the bracket.

Belhaven vs. Rhodes, Part III
Rhodes took both regular-season meetings from Belhaven, including a top-25 matchup in Memphis. Belhaven will try to flip the script in the postseason.

Belhaven's bullpen in a double-elimination format
John Wade has been one of the top closers in Division III with eight saves and a 1.10 ERA. In a regional format where late leads are everything, Belhaven's ability to shorten games could become a major factor.

Concordia Texas' defense
The Tornados enter with a .973 fielding percentage and 107 double plays turned. In a regional filled with high-scoring lineups, clean defense could give Concordia Texas a path to stay in games and extend the weekend.

Rhodes' power bats
The Lynx have hit 49 home runs, led by Corbin Martens with 14. Rhodes' ability to change a game with one swing makes the Lynx dangerous against any pitching staff in the field.

What Fans Should Know
This regional has no shortage of storylines.

ETBU is the host and top seed, powered by one of the biggest offenses in the field and a home record that makes Tiger Ballpark a difficult place to play. Belhaven brings postseason experience, a strong defensive profile, and the confidence of having swept ETBU earlier this season. Rhodes has already beaten Belhaven twice and brings a dangerous lineup led by one of the top freshmen in the region. Concordia Texas enters as the No. 4 seed, but the Tornados are riding the best current win streak in the field and just won their first SCAC title.

Friday's opening games will set the tone. ETBU and Concordia Texas meet for the first time since 2024 in the tournament opener, while Belhaven and Rhodes renew a matchup that has already produced two Rhodes wins this season. By Saturday, the double-elimination format will start to test pitching depth, bullpen management, and the ability to respond after a win or loss. By Sunday, one team will leave Marshall with a regional championship and a spot in the NCAA Super Regional round.
