Blazers Track and Field Competes at Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's and Women's Track & Field teams continued their outdoor season with a strong showing in their fourth meet of the year at the Southern Miss Invitational.

MEN'S RECAP
Belhaven's sprint group saw solid improvement across the board, led by Julius Phillips in the 400 meters. Phillips ran a personal-best time of 49.87 seconds, improving from his 50.93 mark in the previous meet and breaking the 50-second barrier.

In the 200 meters, Phillips clocked a time of  22.51, while Leeson Taylor III (23.31), Seth Haynes (23.60), and Jaheem Cook (23.96) all competed. Haynes also improved in the 100 meters, lowering his time from 11.64 to 11.45. Taylor added a 51.19 in the 400 meters, while Cook finished in 53.81.

In the middle-distance events, Jacob Turner recorded a personal-best 2:09.88 in the 800 meters, improving from his previous 2:13.90. Drew Duckworth led the group with a 2:06.39, and Donovan Hurst followed at 2:14.10. Peyton Vandevuss competed in the 1500 meters, finishing in 5:03.15. In the hurdles, Damian Sidelien posted a 17.28 in the 110-meter hurdles after running 17.05 in the previous meet.

The highlight of the field events came from freshman Kenneth Mills, who cleared 1.98 meters in the high jump. In the horizontal jumps, Alex Reed turned in one of the top performances of the day, placing second in the long jump with a mark of 7.01 meters. The jump ranks No. 9 in NCAA Division III this season.

Neal Terry added a mark of 6.68 meters in the long jump, while Neveah Matthews recorded a 5.34-meter effort.

WOMEN'S RECAP
On the women's side, Kimona Haynes delivered another standout performance, running the 100 meters in 12.04 seconds. The time ranks No. 10 in NCAA Division III this season. She also posted a time of 24.58 seconds in the 200 meters, which ranks No. 5 nationally.

Yasmyne McCann ran a time of 12.44 in the 100 meters, improving from her 12.77 performance in the previous meet. In the hurdles, Brycelyn Townsend recorded a 16.29 in the 100-meter hurdles, improving from her 16.92 time in the previous outing.

In the 800 meters, Courtney Adams ran a season-best 2:40.43, while Myisha Turner followed at 2:47.60.

In the field events, McCann added a 4.57-meter mark in the long jump.

The Blazers have a week off before heading to Rhodes next Saturday for the Rhodes 7-Way.
