Women's Basketball Picked Fourth in CCS Preseason Poll

JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2026-27 CCS Preseason Coaches Poll, the league office announced Tuesday.

The Blazers received 26 points and one first place vote in the seven team poll, finishing just one point behind third-place Asbury. Piedmont and defending conference champion LaGrange shared the top spot with 30 points each.

Belhaven enters the new season following a successful 2025-26 campaign that saw the Blazers finish 19-7 overall and 11-5 in conference play. The 19 victories marked the program's highest win total in 15 seasons, while Belhaven earned the No. 2 seed in the CCS Tournament and advanced to its third consecutive conference championship game.

Under head coach Steve Calder, the Blazers defeated every CCS opponent at least once during the regular season for the second consecutive year. Belhaven also averaged 76.7 points per game, the second-highest scoring average in program history, while holding opponents to 34.6 percent shooting from the field.

In the postseason, Belhaven earned an 88-79 victory over Asbury in the conference semifinals before falling to LaGrange, 69-62, in the championship game.

The Blazers welcome back five players from last season's roster, highlighted by senior forward Jasi Jenkins. The Houma, Louisiana native averaged 10.4 points and 6.0 rebounds across 20 appearances last season, shooting 51.2 percent from the field. Jenkins also recorded 29 steals and scored a career-high 23 points against Millsaps on November 18.

Senior forward Amanda Walker also returns after averaging 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. The Jackson native led Belhaven with 21 blocked shots last season, including a 14 point, 13 rebound performance against Piedmont in February.

Senior guard Kamren Edwards provides additional experience after appearing in all 26 games last season, averaging 3.7 points per contest and collecting 24 steals. Guards Neeli Magee and Zoey Cade round out the returning group as the Blazers welcome 14 newcomers for the upcoming campaign.

Belhaven opens its regular season on Friday, Nov. 6, against East Texas Baptist in Marshall, Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Blazers will make their home debut against Lyon on Friday, November 13, at 5:30 PM inside Rugg Arena.
