Blazers Women's Basketball Falls in CCS Championship Game

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling 69-62 to LaGrange in the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship game at Mariotti Gymnasium.

With the result, the Blazers finish the year 19-7 overall after advancing to the program's second consecutive CCS Championship appearance.

Following the game, Katelyn Coleman and Veronica Williams were named to the CCS All-Tournament Team for their performances throughout the weekend.

Williams led Belhaven with 20 points, shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line while adding six steals in 40 minutes. Coleman finished with 11 points and three rebounds, while Ny Jones added nine points and five assists. Jenkins provided a strong lift off the bench with 10 points and five rebounds.

In Friday's semifinal victory over Asbury, Coleman scored 21 points and Williams added 20 to help propel the Blazers into the title game, capping a dominant tournament weekend for the senior duo.

The championship opened as a physical, defensive contest.

Kyla Farmer scored the first points of the afternoon on a layup off a feed from Coleman to give Belhaven a 2-0 lead. After LaGrange answered, Coleman converted a pair of free throws to put the Blazers back in front at 4-3.

LaGrange used an 8-0 run midway through the quarter, highlighted by multiple finishes from Laila Battle and Mya Anderson in the paint, to take a 13-5 advantage.

Belhaven responded late. RaMya King and Ny Jones scored inside on back-to-back possessions, and Farmer added a free throw to trim the deficit to two. The Blazers trailed just 13-11 after one.

LaGrange stretched its lead to nine at 29-20 with 2:34 remaining in the half behind a three-pointer from Battle and interior scoring from Amanda Mclendon.

Belhaven answered with timely perimeter shooting.

Williams knocked down a three-pointer at the 1:23 mark to cut the deficit to four, then buried another triple with 22 seconds left to bring the Blazers within 31-28 at halftime.

Coleman added seven points in the quarter, repeatedly getting to the line and finishing inside, while the Blazers stayed within striking distance despite shooting just over 31 percent in the period.

The third quarter featured five lead changes and two ties as both teams traded runs.

Coleman opened the half with a jumper in the lane to cut the margin to one. After LaGrange extended its lead to six, Belhaven responded with a 10-4 run.

Ny Jones scored three straight baskets in the paint, Jasi Jenkins converted in transition, and Williams finished a fastbreak layup to give the Blazers a 42-41 advantage with 3:27 left in the quarter.

Battle and Mclendon answered for LaGrange, but Belhaven kept pushing. King added a layup, and Williams converted two free throws with 10 seconds left to give the Blazers a 49-48 lead heading into the final period.

Belhaven shot 56.3 percent in the third quarter, its most efficient period of the game.

Williams opened the fourth with a three-pointer off an assist from Jones to give Belhaven a 52-50 lead.

LaGrange answered with a 6-0 run, sparked by Battle's free throws and a layup from Adazhah Burrell, to reclaim control at 56-52.

Jenkins kept the Blazers within reach, scoring six straight points in the paint to cut the deficit to one at 59-58 with 3:42 remaining.

From there, LaGrange capitalized on second-chance opportunities and key free throws. A layup by Mclendon pushed the margin to five with 26 seconds left, and a final basket in the closing seconds sealed the 69-62 result.

Belhaven scored 23 points off turnovers and matched LaGrange with 34 points in the paint, but the Panthers held a 46-31 rebounding edge and scored 18 second-chance points.

The Blazers close the 2025-26 campaign at 19-7 overall after securing the No. 2 seed in the CCS Tournament and advancing to the championship game.
