Blazers Women's Basketball Wins on Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss. - On Senior Day inside Rugg Arena, Belhaven Women's Basketball celebrated its 10-member senior class with a dominant 80-48 victory over Wesleyan (Ga.) in the final regular season game of the year. The Blazers closed the regular season at 18-6 overall and 11-5 in CCS play and now await their seeding for the upcoming conference tournament.

Belhaven used a huge second-quarter surge and a decisive third-period run to take control, forcing 33 turnovers and turning them into 29 points while placing 11 players in the scoring column.

Veronica Williams led the way with 14 points, while Kiersten Hudson added 12 and Jasi Jenkins finished with 11.

First Quarter
The afternoon opened with emotion and early energy from both sides. Wesleyan struck first on a three-pointer from Maya Whitehead, and the lead changed hands eight times in the opening frame.

Kyla Farmer scored twice in the paint to keep Belhaven in front, and RaMya King buried a three-pointer from the right wing to give the Blazers an 11-8 edge midway through the period. Allison Liddell added a triple late to push Belhaven ahead 14-11.

Wesleyan closed the quarter with free throws from Jenaiya Hardy to take a 15-14 lead into the second.

Second Quarter
Belhaven flipped the game in the second with its most important run of the afternoon. After Veronica Williams tied the score at the line, Jasi Jenkins sparked a 10-2 stretch with a layup, a tip-in, and a three-point play in the paint to give the Blazers momentum.

Katelyn Coleman added a mid-range jumper, and Kiersten Hudson knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead to 29-23. Williams followed with a transition three, and Ny Jones and King each converted at the free-throw line.

A late layup by Jenkins capped a 27-point quarter for the Blazers, who outscored Wesleyan 27-16 in the period and carried a 41-31 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter
Belhaven seized full control coming out of the locker room. Williams opened the half with a three-pointer, and moments later connected again in transition to spark a 10-2 run that pushed the margin to 48-36.

Hudson buried another three during a 13-3 surge, and Liddell added a triple of her own as the lead stretched to 18. King drilled a three-pointer from the left wing, and Jenkins scored inside twice to extend the advantage to 65-41 entering the fourth.

Wesleyan received scoring from Zariah Davis and Mar'Reonna Little during the stretch, but Belhaven's defensive pressure continued to create turnovers and transition opportunities.

Fourth Quarter
The Blazers left no doubt in the final period. Coleman scored on back-to-back fast-break layups to ignite a 10-2 run, and Farmer added a strong finish in the paint to push the lead to 28.

Williams followed with a tip-in, and Jones knocked down a fast-break three-pointer to extend the margin to 76-45. Coleman and Jayden Coleman each converted at the line during the closing minutes as Belhaven built its largest lead of the afternoon at 32.

With the regular season complete, the Blazers now turn their attention to the CCS Tournament and await their official seeding announcement.
