HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Belhaven's Women's Cross Country team placed third with 97 points at the CCS Championship on Friday at John Hunt Cross Country Park. Seven of the Blazers' eight runners set 6K personal bests. Peyton Vandevuss finished 39th in the men's 8K for the men.

The women's finish was Belhaven's best at a CCS championship. The Blazers placed sixth in 2024 and seventh with 152 points last year.

Senior Ashley Davidson led Belhaven in 16th place, running 25:49.2. She took eight seconds off the personal best she set at the 2025 Watson Collegiate Classic.

Four Blazers crossed the line in consecutive places behind Davidson. Freshman Virtasia Shepard was 31st in 27:29.6, followed by Courtney Adams in 32nd at 27:35.7, Jocelyn Belonga in 33rd at 27:48.3 and Brycelyn Townsend in 34th at 29:03.0. Shepard, Adams and Belonga each set PRs. Townsend finished more than a minute and a half faster than she did at last year's conference meet.

Abigail DeJesus, Mary Anderson and Emily Gaudet also ran personal bests. DeJesus placed 37th in 29:15.4, Anderson was 40th in 29:34.7 and Gaudet finished 43rd in 31:01.7.

In the men's race, Vandevuss ran 32:53.6, his fastest 8K of the season. He moved up seven places from last year's CCS Championship and came within 0.8 of a second from the personal best he set at that meet.

Covenant won both team titles. The Scots scored 22 points in the women's race, led by individual champion Evangelia Berry in 23:07.1. Covenant's men placed five runners in the top six to finish with 18 points. Aidan DeVries won the 8K in 27:13.2.
