JACKSON, Miss. - Luke Finley and
Justin Ramirez gave Belhaven both Collegiate Conference of the South men's soccer weekly awards after the Blazers defeated both MUW and Piedmont last week. Finley earned Offensive Player of the Week while Ramirez was named Defensive Player of the Week, each earning their first career respective awards.
Finley made his mark almost immediately in Saturday's 2-1 conference win over Piedmont. The freshman forward scored 43 seconds into the match, then struck again just 20 seconds later. His two goals proved to be the difference after Piedmont converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
The Lafayette, Louisiana, native finished the week with four points on six shots. He has four goals and an assist in his first season with the Blazers.
Ramirez played every minute of Belhaven's 2-0 week, making nine saves across the two matches. Eight came against Piedmont, a season high for the sophomore goalkeeper. He kept the Lions off the board through the first half and made three more saves after the break to help Belhaven protect its lead.
The Gray, Louisiana, native also made a save in Tuesday's 6-1 win over MUW. He has 47 saves, the third-most in the CCS this season.
Belhaven (8-7-1, 2-2 CCS) closes the regular season Saturday, Oct. 24, at Huntingdon. Kickoff in Montgomery, Alabama, is set for 5 p.m.
