JACKSON, Miss. - Luke Finley pulled Belhaven even in the 68th minute, but Asbury answered four minutes later and held on for a 2-1 win Saturday at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
Belhaven (6-7-1, 1-2-0 CCS) outshot Asbury 18-8 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Ricardo Flores led the Blazers with four shots and assisted on Finley's goal.
The Blazers created chances early.
Wyatt Dupre forced a save in the ninth minute, and
Ciaran Colvin tested Asbury goalkeeper Tolan Beaty twice before halftime. Jacob Graston put the Eagles ahead at 20:55 on a free kick, though Belhaven finished the first half with a 10-3 edge in shots.
Belhaven kept pressing after the break. Beaty stopped a
Courtland Williams attempt in the 55th minute, and Finley converted a cross from the right side from Flores at 67:45 to tie it at 1-1. Tyson Absher restored Asbury's lead at 71:55, scoring off an assist from Ben Shifflet.
The Blazers nearly answered immediately.
Graham Harris struck the left post at 73:17, and Belhaven earned three corner kicks in the final eight minutes but could not find another equalizer.
Justin Ramirez made two saves for Belhaven, while Beaty finished with four for Asbury (4-4-3, 2-1-0 CCS).
Belhaven hosts MUW on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.
