Ellie Jones and
Kennedy Carruth of the Belhaven Softball team have been named among the Collegiate Conference of the South Athletes of the Week on Tuesday following their performances in a 4-0 week for the Blazers.
Jones was named the CCS Player of the Week after she went 6-10 with three doubles, three walks and four RBI across four starts for the Blazers. The Nesbit, Mississippi native also scored a pair of runs herself while playing clean defense at first base across 31 defensive chances. On the year, Jones is hitting .600 with a 1.592 OPS which leads the Belhaven offense that is hitting .340 as a team and outscored opposition 24-4 across their opening week.
Carruth was named the CCS Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 across two starts in the past week. The Blazers' righty threw 13.0 scoreless inning, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out 16 batters. Through two starts opponents hit just .103 against her and her WHIP sits at just 0.38 for the year. Carruth also showed out at the plate going 3-10 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.
The Blazers sit 4-0 to start the season with the doubleheader sweep of Centenary on Tuesday and Schreiner on Saturday. Belhaven will now hit the road for over a month as they are set to compete in the Fontbonne Tour (Illinois), NFCA DIII Leadoff Classic (Georgia) and The Spring Games (Florida) over the coming weeks.Â
