KINGWOOD, Texas - The Belhaven Golf team wrapped up their opening rounds of the Spring season at the Lidlifter hosted by UT Dallas on Monday and Tuesday. Round two of the two-day event took place throughout the day on Tuesday as the Blazers competed against 10 other teams from across Division III.
Among the individuals that competed, Belhaven was led by a combinatioin of
Andrew Scherer and
Jake Shmonov who both finished among a group tied for 30th place. Both Scherer and Shmonov finished the two round tournament +13 overall.
Scherer posted a strong second round and was the bigger mover on the day climbing up the leader board as he shot a 75 (+3) on Day Two. Scherer was helped by his showing on Par 3 holes where he finished even overall and among the Top 10 individuals across the two days.Â
Shmonov showed consistency across both rounds as he shot a 79 (+7) on Day One and followed it up with a 78 (+6) on Day Two. The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania native was strong on Par 4 holes where he averaged 4.20 strokes and was among the leaders.
Will Justice was not far behind those two as he finished in a tie for 39th among individuals. Justice finished +16 across the two days and posted his best round on Day Two with a 78 (+6). Rounding out the team were
Gannon Williams who finished tied for 49th and +21 on the tournament along with
Ashton Anderson who ended tied for 60th and +27 across the two rounds.Â
The Blazers will now prepare for their second tournament of the spring as they travel to Savannah, Georgia on March 6th and 7th to compete in the Port City Invitational hosted by Berry College.Â
