Box Score HOUSTON, Texas – The Belhaven Baseball team fell 4-3 to the University of St. Thomas in the series opener on Thursday night at Reckling Park. The Blazers drop to 1-6 on the 2023 campaign.
St. Thomas used an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st to open the scoring. Sacrifice flies in the 3rd and 4th innings gave the Celts a 3-0 lead at the midway point of the ballgame.
The Blazers got on the board in the top of the 6th as
Grayson Doss came around to score on a fielder's choice from
Dawson Albin. St. Thomas answered with a run of their own in the bottom half to take a 4-1 lead into the later innings.
Belhaven battled back with a pair of runs in the 8th as
Nick Lucido and Doss scored to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Blazers loaded the bases with two outs, but a groundout ended the frame with the Celts up a run.
Preston Canale pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom half, but Belhaven went quietly in the 9th as St. Thomas held on for a 4-3 win in the series opener.
