JACKSON, Miss. - As 2023 draws to a close, Belhaven Athletics is proud to recount some of the many moments displayed by Blazers student-athletes and teams that made this calendar year one to remember. Over the remainder of the year, multiple moments will be recounted, featuring each of Belhaven's athletics programs.

TOP MOMENTS OF 2023: FOOTBALL WINS PROGRAMS FIRST EVER OUTRIGHT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

The 2023 campaign was a historic one for the Belhaven Football program who took home the USA South Conference title, the first outright conference championship for the Blazers in its 26 year history.

Belhaven Football put together the most successful campaign for the program, going 9-1 during the regular season and securing the winningest season for the team, surpassing the 8-win mark set in 2022. Belhaven also went unbeaten at home for the first time in program history as they continued their dominance at home in recent years.

Winning the USA South gave the Blazers their first ever berth to the Division III playoffs, a mark that continues to elevate Belhaven's status on the national stage. The clinching win came in a dominant 46-19 victory over Brevard on the final day of the regular season. 

Following the Blazers' historic run, the program saw 14 players earn USA South All-Conference recognition including the league's Offensive Player of the Year (Kolbe Blunt), Defensive Player of the Year (Carlton Brown) and Coaching Staff of the Year.

Blunt also earned a nod as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Gagliardi Trophy and was nominated for Mississippi's C Spire Conerly Trophy. The accolades for the team continued to pour in as six Blazers were named to the D3football.com All-Region III Teams and Kendrioun Boatman was named the program's first ever AFCA Division III First Team All-American.
