ROME, Ga. – On the heels of a USA South title, the Belhaven Football team placed 14 members on the USA South All-Conference teams announced on Thursday. 10 Blazers were named to the First Team, while two others were tabbed to the second team. Belhaven also placed an athlete on the All-Sportsmanship team with another landing as an Honorable Mention.
In addition to being named the Offensive Player of the Year, running back
Kolbe Blunt earned First Team honors. Blunt led the league in rushing with a school-record 1,230 yards and 17 touchdowns. The Mobile, Ala. native averaged 123.0 yards per game to lead a Blazers' ground game that ranks in the Top 5 nationally in rushing yards. Blunt earned two USA South Offensive Player of the Week honors during the season. In the Blazers' 61-7 win over Southern Virginia, Blunt became Belhaven's all-time leading rusher to add on to his already illustrious career.
Defensive lineman
Carlton Brown earned a First Team spot after being tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Year. The Memphis, Tenn. product led the USA South with 13.0 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks. Brown took home two Defensive Player of the Week awards during the season. This selection marks back-to-back seasons with a First Team honor for Brown.
Tight end
Brooks Brymer was selected to the All-USA South First Team after a stellar senior season. Brymer served a pivotal role on a potent Belhaven offense as both a pass catcher and run blocker. He hauled in 10 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns on the year while also paving the way for the top running game in the conference.
Offensive linemen
Kendrioun Boatman,
Jeremiah Buenrostro, and
Cole McAlpin all earned First Team honors, while
David Turner was named to the Second Team. The four anchored a Belhaven front that saw many rushing records fall throughout the season. On the year, the Blazers ran for nearly 3,000 yards and averaged 290 on the ground per game. The offensive line was stout all season long, allowing just four sacks in the regular season.
Linebacker
Wyatt Beck was named to the First Team after a breakout campaign for the Blazers. The sophomore led Belhaven with 49.0 tackles (11.5 TFLs) to go along with two sacks. Beck's best game came against Brevard a week ago where he totaled nine tackles and a tackle for loss to help the Blazers secure a USA South championship.
Dee Gray earned a First Team selection at cornerback for the Blazers. In addition to returning kickoffs, Gray, a sophomore from Enterprise, Miss., played an important role on a stout Blazers' defense in his first season as a starter. He finished the regular season with 31.0 total tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery, 10 pass breakups.
Safety
Josiah Raymond was selected to the First Team after a solid year in the Blazers' secondary. The junior from Denham Springs, La. was a mainstay in the back end of the defense. Raymond totaled 31.0 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, an interception, and five pass breakups.
The final First Team member was punter
Andrew Norton. Norton punted the ball 37 times for 1,589 yards (42.95 yards/punt) on the year. The Southaven, Miss. native landed 12 punts inside the 20 and booted four for over 50 yards. His long of 68 yards came against Lyon in a Blazers' 48-15 win.
Wide receiver
Jacobey James-Grace earned Second Team honors after leading the Blazers with 15 receptions and five touchdowns. He served as one of the top deep threats this season, totaling 268 yards (17.87 yards/catch) through the air.
Cornerback
TJ Hersey was selected as an All-USA South Honorable Mention. Hersey finished third on the team with 41.0 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and six pass breakups.
Defensive lineman
Kody McCraney was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship Team. McCraney totaled 12.0 tackles 4.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery on the year.
