ATLANTA, Ga. - Shantashia John of the Belhaven Women's Basketball team has been named both the Collegiate Conference of the South Player of the Week and the Rookie of the Week, announced on Monday.
 
John has established herself as the conference's best freshman this season, with this being her seventh Rookie of the Week honor. She averaged 24.5 points and 3.5 assists in two games 
over the past week. 

John poured in a game-high 27 points on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc in Friday's road contest against Piedmont. She followed that up with a 22-point, 7-rebound performance in a blowout win over Covenant on Saturday.

John is averaging a league-best 21.2 points per game in her first year for the Green and Gold. She also leads the CCS in field-goal percentage (50.8%) and free-throw percentage (84.6%).

The talented freshman returns to action Wednesday, January 25th when the Blazers travel to Columbus, Miss. to battle MUW. Tipoff between the Blazers and Owls is set for 5:30 PM.
