RICHARDSON, Texas - On Tuesday the American Southwest Conference announced the all-conference teams and player recognitions for the 2021 football season. In total, the Blazers saw 11 players honored with selections to ASC All-Conference teams.
Running back
Brad Foley was named to the ASC First-Team Offense this season after helping lead the Blazers to a 3-2 record in the spring schedule. Foley led the Blazers ground attack and finished with a team high 584 yards rushing in five games this season. That mark put him second in the conference for the 2021 spring season and his average of 116.8 yards per game represent a career-high. The senior from Memphis, Tennessee moved to 2nd all-time in program history for career rushing yards with 2,144 and became just the second player in Belhaven history to amass 2,000 career rushing yards. Foley also recorded four total touchdowns on the season.
Brooks Brymer joins Foley on the ASC First-Team Offense after an impressive second-year campaign. Brymer finished the season with 189 yards receiving on 12 receptions as a tight end, a single season career-high for the Hoover, Alabama native. Brymer also brought difference-making ability to the blocking game for the Blazers. Alongside the Belhaven offensive line, Brymer helped the Blazers' backs rush for 880 yards and eight touchdowns this season.
Defensive lineman
Demetrius Brokenberry was named to the ASC First-Team Defense this year after helping to anchor a stellar Belhaven defensive unit. Brokenberry finished the season with nine tackles and a pair of tackles for loss. Brokenberry also recorded two pass break ups and multiple QB hurries, helping the Blazers defense finish the year as one of the top defenses in the conference. Brokenberry's presence on the defensive line caused problems for opposing blockers and created opportunities for Belhaven to generate pass rush pressure and run stops regulalry.
Offensive lineman
Kendrioun Boatman was named to the ASC Second-Team Offense. Boatman, in his second season with the Blazers, operated as a tackle for much of the season and was critical to the Belhaven offense's production in 2021. On the year, Boatman, along with the other Belhaven offensive lineman, helped the Blazers generate over 1700 yards of total offense, an average of nearly 350 per game. In the final game of the year, Boatman and the Blazers put together 573 yards of total offense, a new game-high under Head Coach
Blaine McCorkle.
Blazers' defensive lineman
Colton Strain was named to the ASC Second-Team Defense. Strain racked up 20 total tackles on the year and a pair of tackles for loss. Strain was a large factor in the success of the Belhaven defensive line which held opponents to under 320 yards per game on the season, one of the top marks in the ASC. In his career, Strain has 116 total tackles and 31.0 tackles for loss. His career tackles for loss places him second all-time in Belhaven Blazers' program history.
Defensive lineman
Carlton Brown joined Strain on the ASC Second-Team Defense in his second season with the Blazers. Brown finished the 2021 season with 14 total tackles and 5.0 tackles for loss. His 5.0 tackles for loss led the Blazers this season and brings him to 13.0 TFL in his Belhaven career. Brown was instrumental in helping the Blazers neutralize the running game of opponents and on the year the Blazers gave up just 535 total rushing yards, second lowest in the ASC.
Isaiah Blackmon was also named to the ASC Second-Team Defense. Blackmon, a senior linebacker for the Blazers, recorded 15 total tackles this season and 3.5 tackles for loss. He also recorded 0.5 sack and a fumble recovery along with a pair of pass breakups. Anchoring the linebacker group for Belhaven, Blackmon adds to an impressive Blazers' resume that sees his career tackles total rise to 65 and him move to 11.5 tackles for loss as a Blazer.
Quarterback
Mayowa Asagunla was named to the ASC Third-Team Offense for Belhaven after displaying his ability as a dual-threat at the helm of the Blazers' offense. Asagunla finished the season with 59 completions on 89 attempts for 660 yards. On the ground he added 140 more rushing yards and a team-high four rushing touchdowns in his second season with the Blazers. This marks the second season Asagunla has received All-Conference considerations after he was named to the ASC Second-Team Offense in 2019 as a wide receiver.
Linebacker
Connor Fordham was named to the ASC Third-Team Defense this year, his third season with the Blazers. Fordham led Belhaven this year with 30 total tackles and also picked up 4.0 tackles for loss, the second most on the team. The Alabama native also picked up a pair of sacks, two pass breakups and multiple QB hurries in what was a stellar season all around for the junior. Fordham now has 97 total tackles in his Blazers' career.
Corey Toliver joins Fordham on the ASC Third-Team Defense this season after helping to lead the Belhaven secondary. The defensive back from Zachary, Louisiana led Belhaven with two interceptions on the year and was joint leading tackler with 30 total alongside
Connor Fordham. Toliver also had a forced fumble and multiple pass break ups as he helped the Belhaven defensive backfield allow under 210 yards per game to opponents.
Ben Owens was named to the ASC Outstanding Sportsman Team of the Year after his displayed sportsmanship and leadership qualities this season for the Blazers. The quarterback from Starkville, Mississippi was also influential in one of the Blazers most important moments of the season. It was Owens' touchdown pass to
Brad Foley with less than 30 seconds left in the game against Louisiana College on March 6th that saw the Blazers secure their first victory of the season.
