HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Belhaven track and field teams were back in action for their second outdoor meet of the season, as they traveled to William and Carey to compete in the Carey Outdoor Challenge.
Frances Knight, Anneshia, Greer, Aadreona Conner, and Kelsi Bouldin all competed in the 100 meters and 200 meters finals at the Carey Outdoor Challenge. Newcomer Ashton Lovelace and Ellie Brooker also competed in the 200 meters and finished with solid times. Additionally, Maurissa Winford and Ashaunti Barnes joined Lovelace and Brooker in the 400 meters. Francie LeDuff was the only Blazer to compete in the 800 meters and 1500 meters. A quartet of Blazers made up of Kelsi Bouldin, Frances Knight, Ashaunti Barnes, and Maurissa Winford competed in the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay and finished in 3rd place in the 4x400 relay.
In the field events, Desire Tackett had the highest mark for the Blazers in the Shot Put and the Discus. Neely Brunt also competed in both events and had a mark of 7.72m in the Shot Put and 26.72 mark in the Discus.
On the men's side, Kelton Kemp had a remarkable day following his performances in the 110m hurdles, 400 hurdles, 4x100 relay, and 4x400 relay. In the 110m hurdles, he shattered his own school record with a time of 14.95, good enough for a third-place finish. He also came in first place in the 400 hurdles out of 11 competitors with a time of 56.30. Christian Venzen, Keandre Fultz, and Charles Wilson competed in the 100 meters and had top 16 finishes. Fultz along with Michael Bonds were the only two Blazers to compete in the 200 meters. Hunter Magno-Hester, Theodore McCarty, and Charles Walker was the trio of Blazers to finish the 800 meters and 1500 meters.
In the field events, Standish Dyson finished first for the Blazers in the Shot Put followed by Master Davis with a mark of 10.40m. Markese Lee, QuoShane Kelly, and Roderick Gordon were the other athletes to record a mark in the Shot Put. Kelly, Dyson, and Davis all had top 10 finishes in the Discus. Jordan Wakfield, Jarron Archuleta, and Roderick Gordon rounded out the marks for the Blazers in the Discus. Markese Lee and QuoShane Kelly had top 10 finishes in the Javelin.
The Blazers return to action on March 26 in Raymond, Miss. at the Hinds Relays on the campus of Hinds Community College.
