Box Score HOUSTON, Texas - The Belhaven Baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series against University of St. Thomas on Saturday by a final score of 19-9.
After splitting Friday's doubleheader, the two teams squared off on Saturday afternoon for a series rubber match. In the non-conference matchup, the two teams each put up a run in the first inning but the hosts jumped out to a 3-1 lead after a two-run second inning.
The Blazers answered in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs of their own before taking the lead in the fourth. Belhaven extended their lead in the fifth with a three run frame and led 7-4 after five innings.
The hosts exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, three runs in the seventh and added on six more in the eighth to take the game via run rule.
On the day, the Blazers were led by
Kyle McLaughlin who finished 3-3 with a trio of runs and a pair of RBI.
Hunter White finished 3-5 in the game as did
Nick Lucido who also picked up a pair of RBI.
With the loss, the Blazers fall to 10-5 on the season but maintain their 5-1 conference record. Belhaven returns to the diamond next weekend when they visit Howard Payne for a three-game ASC series.
