Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team split Friday's home doublehead against Hardin-Simmons on Friday, falling in the first game 8-5 but winning 6-0 in the nightcap. 

In the first game of the day, the Blazers jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the bottom half of the first frame. The visitors tied the game in the top of the second but the Blazers scored a pair in the bottom of the second inning after an error and sacrifice fly. In the top of the third and fourth Hardin-Simmons scored a run but Belhaven led 5-3 after four innings.

In the top of the sixth, Hardin-Simmons levelled the game at 5-5 and the scheduled seven-inning contest went to extra innings. In the top of the eighth, a trio of two out runs put Hardin-Simmons on top and the Blazers were unable to extend the game in the eighth. 

Hunter Sanford got the start on the mound for the Blazers in the first game and went five innings allowing three runs, only one earned, on four hits. He racked up four walks and struck out seven on the day. Justin Milam took the loss throwing 2 and 1/3 innings in relief allowing three runs on six hits. Logan Walters led the way at the plate in the first game going 2-5 with a pair of RBIs.

Belhaven bounced back in the second game of the day starting strong once again with a pair of runs in the first inning. The Blazers would add four more runs in the second a pair of which scored on an RBI double from Trip Benson. Belhaven would threaten throughout the game but the game ended by a 6-0 final.

Brett Sanchez was dominant on the mound throwing all seven innings in a shutout performance. Sanchez struck out a season-high nine batters and allowed just five hits on the night. Trip Benson went 3-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs. 

The rubber match between the two teams is set for Saturday with first pitch schedule for 1 PM at Smith-Wills Stadium.
