JACKSON, Miss. – The Belhaven University football program will be the second team featured in the Belhaven Sports Spotlight. This is an exciting year for the football team after one full year under Head coach Blaine McCorkle. Belhaven football can now participate and have a chance to qualify for the NCAA championships.  After a four-year transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division 3 membership, our coaching staff is excited to be able to compete on a national level. 

Head Coach Blaine McCorkle has a unique approach to get student athletes to come to Belhaven. If you want to be challenged academically, athletically, socially, and spiritually, then Belhaven is the place for you. No matter where you come in spiritually, you will be challenged and be exposed to things that cannot only be life changing, but eternity changing as well. 
 
It is extremely important for an athlete to come in and budget their time both on the field and in the classroom. Coach McCorkle stated, "It takes a highly dedicated and disciplined person to be a student athlete at any level as the demands are great and it is not for everyone." One of the great resources Belhaven has to offer is Ms. Rebecca Romine. She is the Director of Student Athlete Care here at Belhaven and has been a tremendous addition to our athletic department in regards to mentoring our young men to make mature academic decisions in order to meet their goals as a student and a athlete.

If you are considering joining the Belhaven football team, the staff would like you to come to one of our many camps and get to know us better on a personal level and keep the communication lines open.  Another step you can take is be of excellent character and excel in the classroom. "You have to want to be a Blazer as bad as we may want you," said Coach McCorkle

Last year was the first year as a coaching staff; we were very proud of the process we made. The coaching staff significantly changed the culture into not only a team, but also a family of young men who love and care for each other and is willing to fight for one another. Under second year Head Coach Blaine McCorkle, the football team has excelled in the classroom. In three straight semesters, the football team has recorded the highest GPA's on record. Come to Belhaven to be challenged like never before and be the one to write a new and amazing history for Belhaven football that you can call your own, and lastly come help us "SHARPEN THE SWORD."
